Hi,

What the secret in setting up a VPN between a CP AI box and Linksys Wireless-G VPN Router? I just can;t seem to get it to work.... ha anyone tired successfully to accomplish this? I've set up many other tunnels between various vendors, but this is the first I've done with a Linksys FW/Router.

Any help would be appreciated.

David,
is the Linksys model #
WRT54G ?
If that is the case then it is only IPSEC pass-thru.
I have this setup. You still need the SecureClient installed in PC behind the Linksys router. Make sure you have the latest drivers on your Wireless card...or you may experience problems with WEP.
My wireless connection was dropping off intermittenly until I upgraded the the drivers.

Hi Sal,

No, the model is the Linksys WRV54G, and I know it definitely does support Site to Site VPN's. I've read through the User Manual for this router, and have tried to create a very simple 3DES, SHA-1, pre-shared secret VPN.

It's weird though, as on the checkpoint side, in the Tracker, I can't see the two devices even trying to set up a tunnel at all. They can ping each other, but they don't seem to want to do anything else.

I have had secureremote working fine through this very same router, from the same IP and to the CP box, so I don't think it's a routing issue, as they can obviously find each other on the Internet. Obviously I have turned off SecureRemote for this exercise as well as disabled IPSEC pass-through to.

Any other ideas?

Thanks in advance,
David

David,

I have a VPN tunnel setup between a Linksys VPN router (BEFVP41) and a FP3
box. It works wonderfully...its quite fast too. I can email you full
documentation tommorow. I actually found a PDF file on Sonicwall's website
that shows how to setup a site-to-site vpn tunnel between Sonicwall SOHO and
Checkpoint. I followed the same instructions for a Linksys router.

Here are the basic steps in Checkpoint SmartDashboard.....

1. Create an Network object for the remote LAN
2. Create an Interoperable VPN Device object for the Linksys Router...fill
in all pertinent info
3. Create a VPN community...fill in all pertinent info...add the Linksys
Router object to community
4. Create 2 rules in your policy....office lan to linksys lan,
encrypt....vice versa
5. Go to VPN page in Linksys VPN Router and add the info for the tunnel.

Remember, EVERY detail must match on both sides!!! This includes,
encryption, phase1 phase 2, DH group1, DH group2, etc or it will not work.

Good Luck,
Scallica
